What happened to the Free TRW Credit Report?

Once upon a time getting your TRW credit report was not only easy but free too. However this has changed and it is now no longer possible to receive your free TRW consumer credit report.

TRW was bought in 1996 and was formed into a new company called Experian. TRW used to allow people to get a free mailed copy of their TRW credit report once year. Experian cancelled this policy after the purchase of TRW (Except in states that have laws about receiving free credit reports by mail). From the TRW credit report to the big three

Experian seems like the logical place to start when examining the big three credit bureaus. It is the newest player in the industry having only been formed after the purchase of TRW in 1996. As we mentioned above they have stopped giving out the free TRW credit report.

The next of the credit bureaus we will look at is Trans Union, which offers the best online service for viewing your credit report. Trans Union is a much older participant in the credit report game having been in business now for over 30 years. Inspired no doubt by the TRW credit report, Trans Union now also offers a free credit report.

You have the option of receiving it online (recommended) or by mail. However just like Experian you must sign-up for a free trial of their credit monitoring service and cancel within the first 30 days to get a full refund with your free credit report. Finally we shall look at the biggest credit bureau, Equifax. Even they have been inspired by the TRW credit report to start giving their own free credit reports. Equifax
has branches in 12 different countries but unfortunately only American consumers can get a free Equifax credit report. This is rather unfair to the people living in the other 11 countries served by Equifax but that is their policy.

Getting your Free Equifax credit report is similar to getting your Experian or Trans Union credit report. You must sign up for the free trial of their credit monitoring service and cancel before the free trial period is up.
